GARAGE DOOR REPAIR & MAINTENANCE
Your Garage Door is the Largest Moving Part of Your Home
You probably don’t think much about your garage door at all until it’s not working. The truth is, we use our garage doors to get our vehicles, yard equipment, groceries, and supplies in and out of our homes. Our garages and sheds are a safe place for our storage, our family treasures, our DIY projects, and our hobbies. Our garage doors act as both a barrier and an entry to your home and can require some attention. Your garage door is the largest moving part in your home and, sometimes, it will need either damage repair or regular maintenance to keep it moving smoothly.
71% of homeowners use their garage door as their entry door.
On average, your garage door is opened and closed 2,000 cycles a year.
Leave the Repairs to the Professionals and Avoid Garage Door-Related Injuries
Approximately 20,000 people are injured each year by a garage door. Home and business owners are quick to hop on a ladder to see what’s going on, but overhead doors are heavy, and if you’re unsure of the mechanics, you could get seriously injured. In fact, the number one garage door injury involves fingers and hands getting caught between sections. Don’t make a bad day worse by turning your garage door damage into a trip to the emergency room! At Hartland Overhead Door, we have a full team of trusted local service experts ready to visit your home or business to repair and maintain your garage doors.

Inspect for Physical Damage
There are many moving parts to an overhead door that you should monitor to prevent future issues. Stand inside your garage when the door is closed and look over the door springs, cables, rollers, and pulleys. Look for signs of fraying, major wear, or rust. If something doesn’t look right, it’s best to call our garage door repair professionals to take a look.
Perform a Balance Test
If you have an automatic opener system, close the door, and if you feel comfortable, disconnect the automatic opener. Then try opening the door and observe whether it lifts smoothly or if there is any resistance. The door should stay fully open on its own. If your door is difficult to open or does not remain open, it’s likely the door is out of balance and is putting undue strain on the automatic opener apparatus. If you notice these issues, contact our garage door repair team immediately.
Verify Safety Sensors are Working
The “photo eye” is the mechanism in an automatic door that recognizes when objects are in the way of a doors closing pathway and triggers the system to lift the door back up. Stand outside your door when it’s open and use your remote to close the door. As it closes, take a long pole, like a broom handle, and wave it in front of the photo eye to break the beam. Your door should immediately reverse and go back up. If the door does not reverse, catches, or is slow to change course, contact our repair team to avoid future injury or damage.
